School Holiday sessions

Wondering if your child will love fishing? Our Junior Anglers School Holiday Sessions are designed specifically for kids aged 8–16 who are curious about getting out on the water and giving fishing a go.

how it works

🕑 2-hour guided session departing wharf-to-wharf from historic Wollongong Harbour, with no more than 20 minutes travel each way.

🎣 One rod per child: No sharing. Every child gets their own rod for a fully hands-on experience.

🧒 Small group experience: Only 11 rods per session, so every child gets attention and guidance.

🦐 All equipment supplied: Rods and bait are included.

🐟 Catch and release fishing: All fish are carefully returned to the water.

🧑‍🧒‍🧒 Adult supervision is required: Each participating child must attend with an accompanying adult (maximum of 2 children per adult). Adults are there to assist while the children do all the fishing, making this experience a fun and memorable opportunity for quality bonding.

🐠 A great way to discover a love of fishing before committing to a longer charter.

Seasickness Disclaimer

Seasickness can occur during our charters, even on calm days. The motion of the ocean is unpredictable and affects everyone differently. We strongly recommend taking preventative measures if you’re prone to seasickness. Over-the-counter remedies, natural options like ginger, or consulting your doctor for advice can make a big difference in your comfort during the trip.

Please understand that as this is a shared session with other people onboard, we cannot return to the harbour if a passenger becomes unwell. Our crew will do their best to assist, but preparation is key to ensuring a great day on the water.

By booking with us, you acknowledge that seasickness is a potential risk and accept responsibility for taking necessary precautions.

Frequently Asked Questions

+     Does my child need fishing experience?

No experience is required. These sessions are designed specifically for first-time and beginner young anglers.

+     Will the session still run if it's raining?

Light rain usually won’t stop the session from running. However, if weather or sea conditions are unsafe, the session may be cancelled and we will contact you no later than 9:00am on the day with further instructions.

+     I have 3 children, can I be the sole supervisor or should I bring another adult?

We strongly recommend one adult supervises no more than 2 children at a time to ensure each child gets proper attention and guidance. If you bring more than 2 children, you’ll need to divide your focus between them. Bringing an additional adult comes at no extra charge.

+     Why can't we keep the fish we catch?

Our sessions are designed for learning and fun, so all fish are returned to the water safely. This allows kids to focus on enjoying the fishing experience in a safe and supervised way without the need to handle their catch or worrying about their catch being harmed.

+     What if my child doesn’t want to fish the whole time? Can the adult take over?

Children are encouraged to participate at their own pace — they can take breaks, observe, or try just a few casts if they like. Adults are not permitted to fish, as we’ve found that when adults take over, children often take a backseat and miss out on the hands-on experience. This session is designed to be all about the kids, with adults there to assist, guide, and support them while they fish.

+     What happens if my child gets nervous or scared?

It’s completely normal for children to feel a little nervous, especially on their first fishing experience. The session is designed to be gentle and fun, and adults are there to assist and encourage them. Children can take their time, observe, or try casting at their own pace — the focus is on making it an enjoyable, hands-on experience.

+     Is this suitable for kids who get seasick?

The session is short and stays close to shore, which helps reduce the likelihood of seasickness. However, it can affect some children differently. Because we need to consider the experience of all kids on board, it’s unlikely we would return to the wharf earlier than scheduled if a child feels unwell. For children who are prone to seasickness, we recommend speaking to a pharmacist or your GP about preventative medication before the trip.

+     Are life jackets provided?

By law, life jackets are available on the boat, but they are not required to be worn during the session unless in an emergency. You are welcome to bring your own for added peace of mind. Rest assured, this experience is extremely safe, and the risk of anyone going overboard is very low.
